В СССР это жестко пресекалось, в России до сих пор смотрят косо, а в Штатах - в порядке вещей. Даже на официальные мероприятия порой приглашают - не с мужем/женой, а с SO.
Вообще, подобные вещи очень сложно переводить - именно из-за разницы в менталитетах. Girlfriend может быть как подружка на одну ночь, так и женщина, с которой живешь десять лет, имеешь общих детей, но по каким-то причинам не можешь или не хочешь оформлять отношения официально.

Speaking of holidays - you know that there is no such thing as "Motherland Defender's Day" in States. We have the Veteran's Day instead - a day dedicated to all veterans of all wars, from Mexican-American war to Iraq campaign. In reality (though not official) it's also a day of remember for all veterans of all armies, including German and Japanese. The war is in the history, and there were a couple of international events where former enemies sat at the same table, drunk and talk to each other. They are not enemies anymore and respect each other as a skilled opponent who served his country the best way he can, based on his best understanding of patriotism.
And speaking of so-called "men's day" - in States it's Father's Day, not associated with any military at all. On the other hand, so-called "women's day" is Mother's Day, not March 8th. And Valentine's Day for young couples and Significant Others. We definitely need Kid's Day when kids can do whatever they want - but just one day a year :)

We have Armed Forces Day in the USA, duh!

Actually, we have the Armed Forces Week :) And yes, the Armed Forces Day too. As well as Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard days. Though our rangers, paratroopers and Navy Seals does not swim in fountains, like their Russian colleagues, they have a lot of other funny traditions :)

The original book was written in English and translated to Russian. So we have Bronze, Brown and Blue dragons on the first hand (boys?) and Golden and Green on the other one (girls?). It's almost impossible to get such combinations by a random color pickup, so it's done by purpose. The only thing left is to put Black and Grey dragons to this pattern. Pretty straightforward :)
That's the perfect example of "lost in translation" matter.

A Lamborgini covered with Swarovski strass - well, I never heared about it, but do believe. After golden Kalashnikoffs, laptops in genuine crocodile skin, other laptops in Swarowski crystals and all such stuff - nothing fancy. Just wondering how much is the insurance, especially for a body repair :)

So she has two options: go to a restaurant and drink Cola - or drink as usual and then drive her Swarovski Lamborghini back (and try to put it into the garage). I can't say which one is more stupid.
But... If she can afford such kind of car - she can probably afford a personal driver/bodyguard as well. And such car calls not just for a bodyguard or two, but for SWAT team on a heavy SUV or even M2 Bradley :))
